EXYP Board Member Profile: LoVina Louie

Extraordinary Young People welcomes to the Board LoVina Louie-Lawrence. LoVina is from the Coeur d’Alene/Colville tribes and was born and raised in Nespelem, Washington. She is currently the Youth Coordinator for the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Youth Leadership Program. In the past eight years she has developed and implemented the Rock’n the Rez program, which is a comprehensive eight-week summer program for youth living on the Coeur d’Alene reservation. The program basics include: leadership, youth employment, dance, drama, arts and crafts, culture, language, tradition, and, says LoVina, “fun!” A former Miss Indian World 1990-1991, Rotary Youth Exchange Student to Australia 1998-1999, National UNITY (United Nation Indian Tribal Youth) Council Co-President, and Earth Ambassador (1991), recipient of Youth Leadership Award by NCAI (National Confederation of American Indians, 1993) and part of the War Declared Against Alcohol Abuse poster with actor Wes Studi. She is a local and national trainer and speaker for NCAI, ATNI (Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians), UNITY, and various Wellness Conferences. She coordinated a conference focusing on helping families dealing with grief. Her experiences have inspired her to help Native youth reach their full potential. For the past eleven years she has dedicated herself to working with youth ranging from birth to young adults in a variety of programs. EXYP is excited to have her on board!
